Kimberly Swan is the owner of The Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty, with offices in three of Maine’s most strategic locations for value retention and growth; Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Blue Hill and a dynamic team in the Greater Portland market. The Swan Agency is the market leader in Hancock County and has a significant presence in other parts of Maine including Portland, Maine’s biggest city. The Swan Agency affiliated with Sotheby’s International Realty in 2006. Kim personally focuses on business development and luxury and commercial sales. Kim is an active real estate investor with a concentration in hospitality properties.
Kim primarily purchases high quality, excellent location properties and rebrands if necessary, redesigns if necessary and improves occupancy through distinctive marketing, strong hospitality and business focus.
Kim, a true Gemini, has a strong interest in the arts as well as business and owned Cygnet Gallery in Bar Harbor and Portland showcasing Maine talent for several years. In 2008 she executive produced “Broadway on the Isle”, a cabaret production to benefit the historic Criterion Theatre featuring John McVeigh and Ellen Domingos leading a host of local talent in a production that filled the theatre and ended with a standing ovation.
Kim co-owns Maineville Music Publishing with singer/songwriter, Aaron Benward. Songs in the catalog are currently being considered by several of Nashville’s leading country artists for recording. ABC’s Nashville has secured two songs and LifetimeTV secured a Maineville song for it’s Project Runway show. Kim and Aaron were executive producers for Amazing Music of Mainers two CD set to benefit Maine Credit Union’s Fight to End Hunger in 2011 featuring Maine artists such as Dan Fogelberg and Noel Paul Stookey.
In 2012 Kim ventured into the restaurant business with business partner and BravoTV Top Chef Master finalist, Chef Carmen Gonzalez to open Carmen at The Danforth in Portland. Though a short term enterprise, Carmen at The Danforth won Eater Maine’s Restaurant of the Year award and was nominated for best restaurant design. During the restaurant’s tenure Kim appeared in the pilot of Chef Carmen’s television show La Chispa de Chef Carmen for MGM Latin America.
Kim is the founder and Creative Director of Bar Harbor Maine’s Designer Showhouse project, started in 2013. Along with Maine Home + Design Magazine, The Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty sponsors the annual Showhouse with designers from around Maine transforming an historic home on Mount Desert Island. In 2013, a late 1800’s cottage was the inaugural venue – Brightholme, with the Jackson Laboratory, an internationally known cancer research leader as the non-profit benefactor. In 2014 the Vanderbilt Carriage House on the Bogue Chitto estate in Bar Harbor will be the venue with the Bar Harbor Historical Society chosen as the non-profit benefactor. The 2016-2017 building has been chosen, the Bar Harbor American Legion Hall on Cottage Street with all proceeds benefitting the local Legion.
Living Acadia TV was launched in the summer of 2015 on Fox22. The nine first season episodes of LA explored the Acadia lifestyle featuring the listings of The Swan Agency Sotheby’s International Realty. Kim hosts a great group of brokers and contributors on this project which is also available for viewing on The Swan Agency’s YouTube channel. One of the episodes has been submitted to consideration to the New England Emmy Awards.
Kim sold her property at 52 Cottage Street in Bar Harbor in late 2015, staying on as a 50% partner in a new venture. The current building will be demolished in early spring 2016 and the partnership is building a significant new structure on the site which will house Atlantic Brewing Company’s tasting room and micro brewery. Kim is currently working on launching a co-operative media management and design company offering smaller businesses an array of much needed services including PR, design resources, photography, social media management and location scouting.
Kim’s personal life revolves around her much beloved Yorkie pup, Ava and the support of dog rescue groups. In 2014 Ava was joined by a sister, Izzi who was being fostered for PRONE Rescue Group and a “foster fail” resulted in Izzi becoming a permanent member of the family.
